The Race to Heal Mental Health
In recent years, there has been a growing concern over the prevalence of mental health issues among young Americans. The pressures of modern life, coupled with societal expectations and the constant influence of technology, have created a perfect storm for mental health challenges. Addressing this issue is crucial for the well-being and future of our youth.
That is where the “strengthening your mental health” plan comes to play.
Phil Murphy acknowledged the youth mental health crisis on Thursday July 13th, by attempting to create a bipartisan group of youth, governors, and public officials that will travel the country to spread awareness of the plan.
In The USA today:
1 in 6 U.S. children aged 2–8 years (17.4%) had a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder
ADHD 9.8% (approximately 6.0 million)
Anxiety 9.4% (approximately 5.8 million)
Depression 4.4% (approximately 2.7 million) (LINK)
The core features of this plan are to Increase awareness and reducing stigma through proper policymaking, expanding support and training in caregiving to make sure social workers are ready for the difficulties of working with those struggling in mental health, Ensuring access and affordability of quality treatment and care by removing barriers to getting high quality healthcare by lowering costs staffing the mental health workforce, and Addressing prevention and building resilience. The battle against poor mental health is only just getting started through the spearhead that is Governor Murphy. New Jersey has a chance to be a leader against an issue that plagues the country more and more by the day.
