Over the weekend, the first batch of humanitarian aid has entered the Gaza Strip, with about 54 resources packed convoy trucks entering the territory.

Israel has also announced a possible end plan for the war, that would only occur with a full surrender of Hamas, and the release of all the hostages being kept. All signs point to this not being an viable option for Hamas, though.

Understanding the State Economy as it is Today💰

In September, New Jersey's labor market showed a mixed picture.

The state added 7,700 nonfarm jobs, bringing the total nonfarm employment to 4,347,400. The private sector accounted for the majority of these new jobs, with an addition of 6,200 jobs. However, despite the job growth, the state's unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to reach 4.4 percent.

Looking at the revisions for August, the job growth for that month was adjusted to 9,800 jobs, down from the previously reported 12,300. The unemployment rate for August remained steady at 4.2 percent.

In September, the private sector saw gains in various industries, with the largest job growth occurring in:

  • Education and health services (+7,600)

  • Followed by other services (+1,100), and manufacturing (+900).

On the other hand, there were job losses in:

  • Construction (-1,600)

  • Professional and business services (-800)

  • Information (-800)

  • Financial activities (-200). The leisure and hospitality and trade, transportation, and utilities sectors did not see significant changes in employment for the month. The public sector also added 1,500 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Over the past year (from September 2022 to September 2023), New Jersey added a total of 65,000 nonfarm jobs.

These job gains were distributed across several industries. Seven out of nine private sector industries recorded year-over-year job growth during this period.

The industries with the largest gains included:

  • Education and health services (+52,000)

  • Leisure and hospitality (+10,800)

  • Other services (+4,200)

  • Trade, transportation, and utilities (+2,700)

  • Manufacturing (+1,700)

  • Construction (+700)

  • Information (+300)

However, losses were observed in:

  • Professional and business services (-16,100)

  • Financial activities (-2,800).

On the public sector side, there was an increase of 11,400 jobs on a year-over-year basis.
