Menendez: Corrupt to the Core

After 148 days, the writers union (WGA) has decided on a contract to sign and the strike has OFFICIALLY ended. As of 12:01 A.M, writing work has resumed in Hollywood.
For actors, however, strikes will continue and there are no talks scheduled anytime soon

SENATOR BOB MENENDEZ MAY HAVE DONE A REALLY BAD THING

New Jersey senator Bob Menendez has found himself in murky waters this week after being accused (again) and charged with fraud by:
Secretley aiding the Egyptian government
Attempting to obstruct the criminal prosecution of a friend in exchange for bribes, including gold bars and cash.
In response to the charges, Menendez channeled his inner Jordan Belfort and made a public statement
“I ain’t fkn leaving” (essentially)
In a surprising act of defiance, Sen. Menendez is refusing to step down from his role as senator, and the White House is NOT calling on Menendez to resign.
What happened?
The charges involve allegations of accepting bribes from business associates and using his influence to intervene in criminal investigations.
Menendez is accused of advocating for Egypt despite U.S. concerns about its human rights record, as well as pushing for the nomination of a U.S. attorney who could protect a friend facing prosecution.
The indictment also details the alleged luxury gifts and money he received from businessmen in exchange for official favors including over $600,000 in cash, and solid gold bars.
These charges have led him to leading to his resignation from the chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Butttttt giving up the senate? Not as easy.
The resistance
The immediate resignation is being called for by many sitting democratic senators, including his New Jersey senate partner in crime, Cory Booker.
In a post to twitter, he called for his partners resignation by saying:
“Stepping down is not an admission of guilt but an acknowledgment that holding public office often demands tremendous sacrifices at great personal cost”
The problem with this, is that Menendez is not guilty of a crime yet, and if he does resign, it essentially is an admission of guilt.
So why would a self identifying friend call for a death by media?
It may be because Booker believes that Menendez will be better off out of the spotlight, or it may be because he believes that it would be best for the party’s reelection chances if his friend were to just go away.
Either way, we will track how this story develops over time.
For now, Menendez is not guilty, everybody thinks he is, and his future as a politician is not looking so bright.
