A NEW CHAPTER ON TRANS-RIGHTS IN JERSEY
A father of three students in the Cherry Hill school district in New Jersey has filed a federal lawsuit against the district and the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) over its guidance on notifying parents when their children request accommodations related to being transgender.
The father, Frederick K. Short Jr., claims that the policy violates his Fourteenth Amendment right to raise his children and make decisions about their mental health care.
The lawsuit takes issue with the DOE's guidance, which does not require school staff to notify parents of their child's gender identification.
The guidance states that schools should maintain separate files with different names for transgender students and notify parents only when required by law or in specific cases involving bullying.
Short's lawsuit seeks to end current transgender notification policies in Cherry Hill and statewide, advocating for a change in policy to require parental notification.
The lawsuit is part of a broader legal debate in New Jersey regarding the rights of transgender students and parental involvement in their accommodation requests.
Opponents argue that such policies violate parental rights, while supporters believe they are essential for creating a safe and inclusive school environment for transgender students. The lawsuit highlights the ongoing legal challenges surrounding the treatment of transgender students and their rights in educational settings.

JERSEY CITY TAKES ON DOPE SMOKING COPS🌬
Jersey City, New Jersey, has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a statewide policy that allows police officers to use cannabis while off duty.
The city argues that federal law prohibits anyone using a controlled substance from possessing a firearm, creating a conflict with New Jersey's cannabis laws.
The lawsuit seeks to have the court declare that federal law preempts New Jersey's cannabis laws and policies issued by the state Attorney General.
The lawsuit also aims to prevent the state from forcing Jersey City to reinstate police officers who were terminated due to cannabis usage. Jersey City had fired five officers following positive THC tests, and the state Civil Service Commission ordered the city to rehire two of them.
Jersey City officials claim that the conflict between federal and state laws exposes the city to potential liability and jeopardizes police officers' careers.
The lawsuit raises concerns about public safety and the ability of officers to make critical decisions while on duty. Jersey City's legal action highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and individuals in states where cannabis is legalized but remains a controlled substance at the federal level.
