CHARTED: Saquon Stays in the News
After months of negotiating, Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants have officially come to terms on a new contract worth about $11 million + a franchise tag to go with it.
The local star has been plastered over publications across the country due to the controversy of the pay, with many thinking that players in the same position are underpaid and undervalued.
Barkley, however, is no stranger to intense media coverage. His boom and bust career has earned him countless stories in the media, with this story potentially being his most positive to date.
TIMELINE:
86/100 - SEPTEMBER 22-28, 2019: Barkley sprains his left ankle and it is announced he will miss up to 8 weeks. A tough break for the former rookie of the year.
100/100 - SEPTEMBER 20-26, 2020: The young running back’s season is ended early with a major tear in his ACL only a year after his previous injury, setting the player up for an uncertain future.
60/100 - OCTOBER 10-16, 2021: After a successful comeback, Barkley injures his ankle once again. Although the injury was not serious, many worry and discuss the frequency of his injuries, and the potential for his career.
100/100 - JULY 15-22 2023: Years of injuries and uncertainty has plagues Barkley up until now, but through sheer will he has risen back to the top, and is pioneering contract negotiating for players across the league.
WHATS NEXT?
As the 2023-2024 season approaches, Barkley would consider it a success if he gets to play, and stays out of the media. Another high quality season will not only cement his comeback as one of the strongest in the history of the sport, but will also make New Jersey proud.
